The GCM12SD was designed for accuracy and cut capacity.  Bosch built this saw for accuracy, incorporating major innovations like the Axial-Glide System.  This system was designed with perfect alignment, ultra-smooth cutting action, and of course—accuracy—in mind.  The Axial-Glide System saves space because it doesn’t use a traditional rail setup and can be backed up flush against a wall.

This saw can make a wide variety of cuts.  This cut range is largely due to a 14-inch horizontal capacity, and a 6-1/2-inch vertical capacity.  To further enhance cutting capacity, the GCM12SD has two sliding base extensions that offer enhanced support.

Ease of Use

This powerful saw is surprisingly intuitive and easy to use.  First off, it features Squarelock quick-release fences for simple and precise alignment.  Even more convenient, these fences have a one-touch lock/unlock feature that makes alignment simple.

One of the more appreciated aspects of this saw for ease of use is the all-metal bevel lock lever and range selector located in the front of the saw.  This means you can make bevel adjustments without having to reach around the back of the saw.  The bevel range goes from 0 to 47 degrees to the left and the right, with marked detents at 0, 33.9, and 45 degrees for both left- and right-facing cuts.

To make things even easier, the GCM12SD has a clear lower guard so you can see the cut you are about to make before you make it.

Durability

The Bosch GCM12SD-RT sports a 15 amp motor that delivers no-load speeds of 3,800 rpm.  This kind of power provides fast and accurate cuts, with ease.  You can trust that Bosch built this machine with quality and longevity in mind, it will keep going, and going, and going.

Overall Value

The high ratings across the board make arguing against the value of this saw extremely difficult.  It is certainly in the higher-end price bracket, but so are comparable miter saws in it’s class.  The truth is, most of the time you get what you pay for—with this saw you might even get more than you pay for.  Especially when you consider how much darn work you can get done and how painless that work can be.  And even more so if you save money on a refurbished model.

Our Verdict

If you want a reliable miter saw that can handle just about anything you can throw at it, but don’t want to sacrifice comfort or ease of use, this saw might be for you.  It would be suitable for professional contractors as well as serious D.I.Y. woodworkers—and everyone in between.
